Authorities deem fire at vacant house arson
Authorities are investigating a Friday night fire as arson, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy responded shortly after 9:40 p.m. to a call about a fire in the 2300 block of Canberra Court, according to a report.
When the deputy arrived, a small fire was still burning on the back patio. The back glass sliding door was shattered, and the door frame was burned.
A path of burned grass led from the front of the home to the patio. The home appeared to be vacant, the report said.
The deputy was unable to determine the owner, according to the report.
11-year-old is ejected after driver nods off
Two people were injured Saturday in an accident on Washington Road near Clarks Hill Road.
Columbia County sheriff's Deputy David Herrity said the driver of a 1999 GMC Jimmy fell asleep and overcorrected when the vehicle went off the road and then flipped several times.
The driver, Thomas Weeks, 19, of Martinez, and an 11-year-old boy who was ejected from the vehicle were taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital by ambulance. Both were conscious, Herrity said.
