Officials inspect rooms at Augusta Lodge at 1520 Gordon Highway. Richmond County sheriff's Lt. Scott Gay said officers have received 446 calls to the motel since Jan. 1, 2009.

For the second time in two months, authorities conducted a surprise inspection at a Gordon Highway motel and made several arrests.

The Augusta Lodge at 1520 Gordon Highway was the target Tuesday afternoon as Richmond County sheriff's deputies and fire, health and licensing officials went room-by-room checking for code, health and other violations.

Lt. Scott Gay said six people were arrested, most for outstanding warrants. At least one person faces charges connected to prostitution, and another is accused of selling alcohol from her room, he said.

The inspection was part of an ongoing effort to clean up the highway that began last month when Augusta Super Inn and Club 3000, at 1602 Gordon Highway, were condemned because of inadequate structural conditions.

The inn remains closed, but Club 3000, now called Club VIP, was allowed to reopen after bringing the building up to code.
