Death row inmate files federal appeal

COLUMBIA --- A death row inmate whose execution date was set for next month has appealed his case in federal court.

Defense attorney Bob Dudek said Thursday he filed the request to stay Quincy Allen's execution.

The appeal was filed after state prison officials set a Jan. 8 execution date. Mr. Dudek says that will likely be delayed because Mr. Allen also has the potential for a state appeal.

The state Supreme Court refused Thursday to reconsider its decision.
