Occupation: Retired, former Travel Development Manager of New Jersey state tourism office
Diagnosis and treatment: 1989; Radical surgery, followed by Tamoxifin. Prayers from family, friends and church members.
Her story: Ms. Nevins is always on the go. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was working full time. She didn't let cancer stop her.
Six weeks after surgery, she was back to her job, which required a lot of travel.
She's been cancer free for 20 years. The Evans resident moved to the area 12 years ago and gives back to the community: volunteering at Doctors Hospital, various civic groups and church activities. She also donated her hair to Locks of Love last year.
Advice: "New patients must have faith that the Almighty will comfort and heal them -- physically and spiritually. They must have great faith in their physicians and caregivers... And, one must not be ashamed that their body has changed -- it's what is in your heart and mind that is important."
Quote: "Just keep going and have faith."
