Second suspect sought in Aiken shooting

AIKEN --- The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is looking for a second suspect in a fatal shooting Wednesday night in Aiken.

According to news releases, 17-year-old Akia Jordan, of Ridgecrest Road, is wanted on charges of murder and assault and battery with intent to kill and two charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Police are also searching for 18-year-old Maurice Lamont Council, of Carriage Hills Place in the shooting. Both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

Deputies responded to a residence on T and S Drive Wednesday night and two people had been shot, police said.

Sammie Smith, 33, of Wadley Drive, was shot several times and taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Thursday.

The juvenile victim was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers where he was pronounced dead. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton identified him as James Collins, 16, of Aiken, and said he was apparently involved in a verbal altercation before the shooting.

An autopsy at the crime lab in Newberry revealed that he bled to death from his wounds, and the case is a homicide.

Anyone with information on either suspect can contact the Aiken County Sheriff's Office at (800) 922-9709 or Crimestoppers of the Midlands at (888) 559-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of between $50 and $1,000.
