AIKEN --- An Aiken County murder suspect who fled an Augusta hospital only to return a few days later is now also being looked at by law enforcement in Columbia.
Lt. Chris Cowan, of the Richland County Sheriff's Department, said Thursday that his department has been working with Aiken County investigators to determine if Terrance Riley, 40, of Columbia, or any of the three other men he is charged with in a deadly Ridge Spring home invasion could have been involved in crimes around Columbia.
Lt. Cowan said the crimes being looked at are felony cases but wouldn't elaborate. Aiken County sheriff's Capt. Troy Elwell said he had heard that Richland authorities were looking at Mr. Riley "in some robberies that they've had up there."
Capt. Elwell said one such robbery case might involve stolen weapons, and authorities are checking to see whether there is a connection to the guns used in the home invasion in which Jerry Tyler was fatally shot June 12.
"I know that that has come up, and we are looking into it to see if any of the weapons used were actually weapons stolen out of Fairfield County (also in the Columbia area)," he said.
On Thursday, Mr. Riley remained at the Aiken County Detention Center after being extradited late Wednesday from the Richmond County jail. Mr. Riley has been charged with murder, burglary, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and has a hold on him for Richland County.
Also charged and arrested in the invasion were Mr. Riley's son, Islam Dunn, 17; Datron McFadden, 22; and an unnamed 15-year-old.
