Ice cream bandit is sought

Authorities are trying to identify a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of ice cream from DairyLand Inc. since early April.

Security video released today by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office shows a man breaking into a truck on the DairyLand property at 2542 Mike Padgett Highway and making off with large amounts of the frosty treat. It's one of eight thefts at the same business.

Richmond County Investigator Alton Creech said the thief appears to have no preference for chocolate over vanilla and targets only the ice cream.

"He takes it all," Investigator Creech said

The suspect also has caused damage to the trucks and fence surrounding the property. He typically uses a crowbar to pry open the locks on the trucks and cuts through the fence. The culprit faces charges of felony entering an auto and theft by taking.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the sheriff's office at (706) 821-1080.
