5 hit by car at mall

Five people were injured at Augusta Mall when they were hit by a car in the parking lot Friday, according to an official at a local ambulance service.

The injured were taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, said Gold Cross EMS Maj. Gene Peebles.

He said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Emergency vehicles were sent to Augusta Mall about 9 p.m.

A police dispatcher said someone reported a car had struck several people in the parking lot near the mall's food court entrance.

A Richmond County sheriff's deputy at the scene said a man was arrested in the incident.

The man was still being questioned late Friday night by authorities and charges were not immediately available.
