More than 2,200 vote early for runoff


More than 2,200 people voted early for the General Election runoff in Richmond County from Nov. 14 through Friday, according to a Board of Elections news release.

Votes cast each day were 172 Nov. 14, 432 on Monday, 290 on Tuesday, 339 on Wednesday, 456 on Thursday and 573 on Friday.

Advance voting week will be Monday through Wednesday because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Residents can vote those days from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Board of Elections office, Henry Brigham Recreation Center at 2463 Golden Camp Road, and the Warren Road Recreation Center at 300 Warren Road. All 152 polling sites will be open Dec. 2. Voters are required to show photo IDs.

Police seek man after store's armed robbery

Aiken County police are looking for a man who they say robbed a convenience store at gunpoint in Clearwater on Saturday morning.

The robbery at the Lucky Seven on Jefferson Davis Highway was reported at 7:48 a.m., said Aiken County sheriff's Lt. Michael Frank. A man walked into the store, placed a bag of chips on the counter and showed a handgun to a clerk, Lt. Frank said.

The clerk place the register tray on the counter, then the main took some money and fled in a dark colored Buick or Chevy Caprice, police said

The man is described as black, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds and wearing a gray hoodie, jeans and red shoes.
