Man is beaten with table leg


An Augusta man was beaten with a table leg Saturday after he found his girlfriend with another man at the Adams Super Inn, 1602 Gordon Highway, a Richmond County sheriff's report states.

Glen Gramling, 41, suffered a three-inch cut to his head but refused treatment, the report said.

Mr. Gramling told police that he returned to his hotel room at about 10:40 p.m. and found the man inside. He said he asked the man what he was doing and that the man attacked him.

His girlfriend and the attacker fled before police arrived.

Police arrest six on DUI charges Sunday

Richmond County deputies arrested six people on charges of driving under the influence and other traffic charges early Sunday, according to sheriff's office records.

Clyde Henson Thomas, 30, of Augusta, was arrested at Tobacco Road on charges of DUI, disregarding a red light, leaving the scene of an accident, no proof of insurance and obstruction of an officer.

Robert Michael Logan, 33, of Augusta, was arrested at Washington Road and charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.

Melissa K. Wallenzine, 21, of North Augusta, was arrested at the sheriff's office on charges of DUI and speeding.

Lashonda Temeka Howard, 21, of Hephzibah, was arrested on 15th Street and charged with DUI.

Ryan Christopher Eubanks, 23, of North Augusta, was arrested on Berckmans Road and charged with DUI, open container and no headlights.

Cara Christina Deleon, 24, of Augusta, was arrested on Washington Road and charged with DUI and a defective headlight.

Aiken Choral Society auditions are today

Aiken Choral Society will hold auditions for new members at 7 p.m. today in the choir room of South Aiken Presbyterian Church, 1711 Whiskey Road.

Auditions are for male and female singers of all vocal ranges. Rehearsals will begin at 7:30 p.m. immediately after the audition.

USC Aiken announces homecoming events

The University of South Carolina Aiken has announced a schedule of its homecoming activities. Events in January include Painting the Streets, murals that will remain on display the rest of the semester.

On Friday, there will be two events. Painting will be from noon to 4 p.m. The Aiken After Dark Carnival will be from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The university's first homecoming parade will be on Laurens Street in Aiken at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Church is organizing basketball league

Midland Valley First Church of the Nazarene in Clearwater is organizing a youth basketball league.

Games will be played Saturday mornings in February and March. The league is for boys and girls in kindergarten through third grade. Participants will learn basketball fundamentals in a fun environment. To register, call (803) 593-3114.
