NORTH AUGUSTA - City officials announced Tuesday that they have selected C. Samuel Bennett II as the new city administrator.
Mr. Bennett is the city manager of Clinton, S.C., and will replace Charles Martin, who is stepping down Feb. 28 after almost 27 years as North Augusta's top administrator.
Councilman Arthur Shealy said the city council interviewed four people for the position. He said the decision to hire Mr. Bennett was unanimous.
"We had a good field, but he was clearly head and shoulders above everyone," Mr. Shealy said.
Mr. Bennett has served as Clinton's city manager since 2001. He previously was the assistant city manager for Goose Creek, S.C., for six years.
"I think it's going to be a long-term hire. He likes the opportunities in North Augusta," Mr. Shealy said.
Mayor Lark Jones said he has spent a lot of time with Mr. Bennett in the past few weeks.
"I was impressed with his knowledge of North Augusta. He checked us out thoroughly," Mr. Jones said in a statement.
A native of South Carolina, Mr. Bennett graduated from Winthrop University with a bachelor's degree in political science.
He also earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Bennett did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
