Augustans might have too much to do one weekend next October, thanks to a double-up in scheduling for football and fine arts.

The Georgia-South Carolina football game is on Oct. 6, coinciding with the Westobou Festival, which runs Oct. 3-7.

Shell Berry, the chairwoman of the board of directors for the Westobou Festival, said there had been no talk yet of how to handle the scheduling conflict.

“I’m certain it will not be the best for us to be competing with that big of a game,” she said.

She said that she did not think that anything had been fully booked but that the dates for the festival are unlikely to be changed.

“We’ll just have to schedule the best we can around it,” she said.

Frank Mulherin, past president of the Augusta Bulldog Club and a board member for the Border Bash Foundation, said he had not
heard any talk about scheduling either.

Border Bash is typically held in downtown Augusta the day before the UGA-South Carolina game, which would place it on Oct. 5.

“If I had to say right now, our intention would be to have it just the same,” he said.

Mulherin said that since the Border Bash has outgrown Augusta Common and moved to The Depot, the odds of the two events running into each other are not very high.

“We would have to see if there was any benefit to combining,” Mulherin said. “I imagine we’re just going to coexist.”
