Apartment fire takes life of Augusta man

 An apartment fire Thursday afternoon took the life of an Augusta man, according to a statement from Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen.

Earnest Tillman, 78, was found unresponsive in his apartment, which caught fire on the 4100 block of Pinnacle Pines Court.

Tillman was pulled from the apartment by family members before being pronounced dead at the scene at 1:50 p.m., according to the statement.

Tillman’s body was sent to GBI’s Atlanta Lab for a Friday autopsy, the statement said.

The Richmond County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the blaze, according to the statement.
