2 killed, 3 injured in fatal I-20 crash

COVINGTON, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol officials say two people were killed and three others were injured in a crash in Newton County.

Authorities say the crash happened early Sunday morning on Interstate 20.

Officials say a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic ran out of gas and was stopped in the shoulder. The driver of a Toyota Camry stopped to help the driver of the Chevrolet.

Authorities say a 2004 Jeep Patriot being driven by a 28-year-old Conyers man rear-ended the Toyota and sideswiped the Chevrolet.

State patrol officials say a pedestrian between the two stopped cars was killed, and a passenger in the Toyota also died in the crash.

Authorities say they suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash and that charges will likely be filed against the driver of the Jeep.
