SC group seeks 20,000 bra donations

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A South Carolina nonprofit group is trying to collect 20,000 gently used bras to donate to impoverished women.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the group Not One More has launched an effort called Help the Girls. Not One More helps domestic violence victims in Georgetown and Horry counties and has set up drop off sites in both counties.

Women donating bras are asked to donate a dollar so the bras can be shipped to such places as Fiji, Kenya, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.

Not One More’s president Linda Snelling says in some third world countries bras are so expensive they are sold on the black market. She says those countries also have higher infant mortality and a lack of bras worsens unsanitary conditions for nursing children.
