Ella Mae Price Jones, 79, mother of international rhythm and blues singer Sharon Jones, died Tuesday morning at University Hospital in Augusta from medical complications.

Sharon Jones, on tour in Europe, plans to return to Augusta next week for her mother’s funeral. She announced on her Facebook page that she would continue to do her show Tuesday night in Glasgow, Scotland, in honor of her mother.

Jones also posted this statement on her Facebook page: “To all of you who have been supportive of Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings [band] and to me (Sharon Jones) personally, I just want to let you all know that my beautiful, dear mother has made her transition earlier this morning. I am writing this on our fan page because you all need to know what is going on with me. I love you and thank you all so much for your love and continued support. Please keep my family in your prayers. Thank you very much.”

Sharon Jones, who performed with Prince in Madison Square Garden and with Stevie Wonder in the Hollywood Bowl last year, launched her European tour in late February in Paradiso, Amsterdam.

Her posted tour schedule has her performing in Nottingham, England, on Wednesday night and Birmingham, England, on Thursday night.
