A 24-year-old Augusta man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with another vehicle at Gordon Highway and North Leg Road on Thursday evening.

Moises Santiago-Rodriguez was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m., Richmond County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said..

At 5:36 p.m., the driver’s silver 2003 Suzuki motorcycle, which was traveling north on North Leg Road, and a green 1999 Ford Expedition collided. The Expedition, driven by Toni Akiei, 34, of Augusta, made a turn to travel east on Gordon Highway from the southbound North Leg Road left-turn lane.

The accident is still under investigation but charges are pending, Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay said.

Witnesses at the scene told police conflicting stories about whether or not the female driver had a turn arrow, sheriff’s Lt. Randy Prickett said. The motorcycle and driver were thrown about 100 feet.
