Alexander Drive reopens to River Watch

Motorists travel on the new section of Alexander Drive Wednesday at the intersection of River Watch Parkway.

Alexander Drive reopened to traffic Wednesday, about a month after closing for the replacement of the CSX railroad crossing, according to Richmond County Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell.

The crossing near River Watch Parkway was replaced as part of the ongoing widening and reconstruction project along Alexander Drive from Washington Road to River Watch Parkway.

Sunbelt Structures Inc. was awarded the $7.7 million project in November 2009. It also includes realignment of Alexander Court North and South.

The scheduled completion date is Dec. 31, 2012.
