The program provides toys for thousands of needy area children ages 12 and younger. Food boxes are also provided for households not currently receiving food stamps and who meet income guidelines. Toys collected for applicants will be distributed Dec. 20 at a location to be announced later.

Those wishing to apply for Christmas assistance should visit the Salvation Army First Stop Center at 1765 Broad St. from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. between Tuesday and Nov. 4. Appointments will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis and child care will not be available. Applicants will need to bring ID and proof of income and necessary expenses.
