Man escapes police car, later found, jailed

A man on the way to jail Friday managed to get his handcuffs in front of him, damage a cruiser window and make his escape, a report shows.

The deputy was on Old Waynesboro Road at 4-H Club Road in Hephzibah when Scott Schmidt crawled out the car and bolted into the woods, a report states.

He was found 20 minutes later around 9 p.m. at the dead end of Longpoint Drive and taken back into custody, this time on additional charges of escape and interference with government property.
