Explosives found in vehicle at Fort Gordon

A Keysville, Ga.,  man was arrested on Fort Gordon Tuesday afternoon and charged with  impersonating a soldier.

Authorities also found explosives and "military-like" items in the man's knapsack and vehicle, according to a Fort Gordon press statement issued this morning.

Authorities have not released the name of the man but said he is suspected of stealing military equipment from the post in April.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Bomb Squad, Fort Jackson Explosive Ordnance Unit, Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI were notified.

Fort Gordon Spokesman Buz Yarnell said Tuesday evening that the alert level at the post was not heightened and that "we're not using the word terrorist, either.

" The vehicle was not parked near any housing, Yarnell said.

Yarnell said that military police are always on the lookout for unusual vehicles and this particular vehicle caught their attention. He did not go into more detail.
