Two Tuesday forums give Augusta voters more time with May 24 political candidates

Augusta voters have another chance to hear the views of numerous political candidates at two forums Tuesday.

The League of Women Voters of the CSRA is holding a forum for Augusta Commission and legislative candidates in contested May 24 elections, which include races for commission districts 1, 5 and 9, state House districts 123, 124 and 125 and state Senate districts 23 and 24.

Seating will be limited for the forum, which starts with a meet and greet at 5 p.m. and runs till 6:30 p.m. at the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library, 823 Telfair St. Paine College historian Mallory Millender will moderate, and the event is sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Asociacion Cultural Hispanoamericana and the library, organizer Karin Sisk said.

Overlapping the Women Voters’ event is Tuesday’s monthly meeting of the Augusta-Richmond County Committee for Good Government, at which all the candidates, including those in races for Superior and State Court judgeships and Richmond County marshal have been invited to speak, committee President Richard Isdell said.

Committee members will vote on which candidates to endorse after the candidates speak. The meeting starts with dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Julian Smith BBQ Pit, 3 Milledge Road.
