National GOP group uses golf to attack Obama, Barrow in Masters Week political ad

 

 

The National Republican Congressional Committee has spent nearly $40,000 to run a golf-themed attack ad against Democratic Congressman John Barrow during Masters Week.

The ad, which will air for a week on Augusta cable and broadcast television markets starting Thursday, is titled “Barrow and Obama: The Wrong Pairing” and shows the congressman and president together on a golf course.

“After nearly four years of crushing debt and big-government programs, it’s obvious that Obama and Barrow are the wrong pairing for Georgia,” Republican committee spokeswoman Andrea Bozek said.

Since reapportionment by the Republican-controlled General Assembly increased the likelihood of a GOP victory in the 12th Congressional District, it’s become a “top target” for Republicans this year, she said.

The new district boundaries drew out Barrow’s Savannah headquarters and added more of Richmond and Columbia counties.

The race has attracted four Republican contenders – Augusta contractor Rick Allen, Evans attorney Wright McLeod, Grovetown state Rep. Lee Anderson and Laurens County attorney Maria Sheffield – who will face off in the July 31 general primary.

The national committee has named Allen, McLeod and Anderson to its “Young Guns” program, but could add Sheffield to the list if she meets certain criteria, Bozek said.
