Columbia County School System officials said Monday that school will open at normal time on Tuesday, adding that travel conditions will dictate any further weather-related school cancellations.
Freezing rain is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon or evening and continue through Wednesday.
School system officials announced in a media release that schools will continue on normal schedules Tuesday. An early release of the schools is possible if the weather deteriorates. In the case of early release, all after schools activities including after-school programs will be cancelled.
There is a strong possibility school system officials will close schools and departments on Wednesday because of unsafe travel conditions, according to the release. That decision will be announced Tuesday afternoon or evening.
Parents are asked to monitor the school system Web site www.ccboe.net, Facebook, Twitter and media outlets for the latest information about potential closings or delayed start times for Thursday.
If parents decide to keep their children home when schools are open, the absences will be considered unexcused, but all work can be made up.
