Dearing teen charged with murder

A 16-year-old has been charged with murder for an early-morning homicide on Manassas Drive in Thomson.

Thomson police officers found the body of 38-year-old Reginald Roberts, of the 4500 block of Wrens Highway, in the home of a family member in the 300 block of Manassas about 1:30 a.m., said Pat Morgan, the special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Thomson.

Although the GBI would not release the name of the suspect, McDuffie County Detention Center jail records indicate Quintavious D. Roberts, of Davis Circle in Dearing, was charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. The teenager will be taken to the Augusta Youth Detention Center.

Morgan would not elaborate on the cause of death, but did say that an autopsy is planned for Thursday or Friday at the GBI crime lab in Atlanta.
