Augusta man arrested in burglary, rape



An Augusta man has been charged after the burglary and rape of a 20-year-old woman Saturday.

Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Carrier said authorities were called to Second Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Saturday after a man broke into the victim’s home and raped her.

Police said the victim recognized the rapist as a man often seen in the neighborhood and identified him to officers.

Benjamin Jenkins, 31, of Barry Drive, was found with more than 30 1-gram packs of marijuana tucked into his underwear.

Jenkins was charged with burglary, rape and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
