Teen arrested Friday morning after North Augusta holdup

NORTH AUGUSTA — A 15-year-old is in custody after an armed robbery at a North Augusta gas station Friday morning.

According to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report, officers were called to assist the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office after the robbery at Greg’s Gas Plus, 6043 Jefferson Davis Highway, shortly after 1 a.m.

Police said a young man entered the store armed with a machete and demanded money. After the clerk put money into his black bookbag, the bandit fled into the woods toward Willow Wick Apartments.

Authorities later found the teen in an apartment with his father. He was sweating and had grass stains on his clothes. Police said he insisted that he had been asleep until recently.

After getting consent from his father, officers searched the boy’s room, where they found the bookbag and a wet hoodie matching the suspect’s clothing description. The father turned over a shoebox under the bed with $99 that he told officers did not belong to him or his son.

The teen has not been identified.
