North Augusta man jumps off 13th Street bridge

A North Augusta man who jumped off the 13th Street bridge Tuesday afternoon will most likely not be charged, Richmond County sheriff’s Maj. Jim Griffin said.

Authorities were called to the bridge around 1:30 p.m. and found Russell Keiningham, 37, floating in the Savannah River.

The man, who has heavily intoxicated, was not injured and was able to swim to the shore without assistance.

“He said he just wanted to do it,” Griffin said. “The alcohol does play a part in it.”

Keiningham has been transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital for a mental evaluation.
