Augusta man charged after leading police on chase


A man is in Richmond County jail after hitting two cars and putting one woman in the hospital while fleeing police Sunday night, authorities said.

Desmond Shawndale Ozen, of the 1700 block of Holden Court, was arrested about 11:30 p.m., charged with leading officers on a car chase down Broad Street, Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Robbie Silas said.

During the chase, Ozen hit one moving car and one parked car, Silas said. The moving car’s driver was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital with minor injuries, he said.

Ozen was found in a shed on Tubman Street after he jumped out of his car near Ellis Street and ran, Silas said. Ozen faces charges of driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and fleeing police.
