Wife throws boiling water on Augusta man, 72, police say

A 72-year-old man was recovering Thursday at the burn center after his wife threw a pot of boiling water on him during an argument, police said.

Robert Rodgers told officers he fled his home in the first block of Taylor Street to seek help following the incident around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Rodgers’ wife, 50-year-old Denise Truitt Rodgers, refused to answer an officer’s questions at the scene and was booked without bond into the Richmond County Jail on charges of aggravated battery and failure to protect a disabled person.

Robert Rodgers was taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center and treated for first- and second-degree burns covering 8 percent to 10 percent of his body.
