2 arrests made in Augusta killing of Atlanta-area man

Two arrests have been made in the Oct. 9 slaying of 29-year-old Buchanan Marshal, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said late Thursday.

The suspects are Mikell LiRan Thomas, 15, of the 2500 block of Rhodes Drive; and Chad Jamal Walker, 21, of the 2100 block of Roosevelt Drive.

Thomas is being charged as an adult with murder and armed robbery and is being held at the Richmond County Youth Detention Center. Walker has been sent to the Richmond County jail on charges of murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Marshall, of Flowery Branch, an Atlanta suburb, was shot at least once in the 1800 block of Cooney Circle and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:40 a.m. Oct. 9.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
