Woman denies murder charge in 2009 death of 22-month-old

A Martinez woman suspected of killing a toddler she was baby-sitting in 2009 pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon to murder charges.

Lawanda Concettes Tripp, 40, of Avery Landing, attended an arraignment hearing in the Columbia County courthouse in Evans.

Tripp is accused in the death of 22-month-old Teaira Michele Hall, of Hill Drive at Fort Gordon, on Nov. 15, 2009.
Authorities were called to Tripp's home after receiving a report that the child wasn't breathing.

Teaira's death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation showed she died from "inflected traumatic head injuries," county Coroner Vernon Collins said.

Tripp was indicted in January 2010 but was re-indicted in June to correct typographical errors in the initial indictment, her attorney Vic Hawk said.
