Aiken police seek name of man with fake $20

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is asking the public’s help in identifying a man suspected in the passing of counterfeit money at the Kangaroo Express convenience store, 3540 Richland Ave. W.

According to a news release, the man attempted to purchase items from the store and offered a counterfeit $20 bill to the cashier. The cashier, however, suspected the bill was counterfeit and called police. The suspect fled in an early 2000s model Jeep Cherokee driven by another man. Police say the suspect was described as black, about 5 feet 6 inches and about 200 pounds.

Aiken Public Safety investigators have seen more reports of the use counterfeit currency within the past week.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact Aiken Public Safety at (803) 642-7620 or Crimestoppers at (888) CRIME-SC. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of $50 to $1,000.
