Doctors Hospital CEO announces his resignation

C. Shayne George: CEO of Doctors Hospital has announced that he will leave the position May 31 to move to the Tampa, Fla., area.

The CEO of Doctors Hospital is moving up the chain in health care company HCA.

C. Shayne George announced Monday in an e-mail that he would relocate to the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point in the Tampa, Fla., area.

"Although this transfer represents the next step forward in my career with HCA, it does not mean this was not a difficult decision for me to make," George wrote. "I have thoroughly enjoyed the last eleven years of my career in Augusta and in that time, Doctors Hospital has achieved unbelievable success."

George was named CEO in 2004 after serving as chief operating officer. Under his leadership, Doctors underwent a $55 million renovation that included a new entrance and lobby and a new three-story tower with 24 intensive care unit beds and a 24-bed Joint and Spine Center.

His last day will be May 31, and recruiting for a replacement is already under way, according to the e-mail.
