Former Augusta superintendent named to top job in Richmond, Va., schools

Former Richmond County school superintendent Dana Bedden was named Sunday as the top school official in Richmond, Va., according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper.

Bedden, 47, left Augusta in 2010 to become the superintendent in Irving, Texas, where he resigned this summer over the “philosophical direction” of that school district.

According to the newspaper, Bedden and an assistant superintendent in Gwinnett County, Ga., were finalists for the job, which started with 76 candidates.

Bedden was Richmond County’s superintendent for three years.
