C.T. Walker Elementary students sing a poem about butterflies during a dedication ceremony to the school's new Butterfly and Vegetable gardens, which will be used to teach science, nature, writing and mathematical skills and community service.
Kindergarten teacher Jenny Landrum spearheaded the garden project at CT Walker Elementary, along with the Watson-Brown Foundation, to create a long-term community and school project for the students. The gardens will be used to teach children science, nature, writing and mathematical skills as well as teaching them community service through donating the food they grow to members in the community. "We're not just helping ourselves," sixth-grader William Gerardot said. "We're helping each other."
