Two Augusta businesses reported copper thefts Monday, according to incident reports.
The manager of the construction project at the Holiday Inn Express at 444 Broad St. discovered $70,000 in copper has been stolen in the past three months, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said. A deputy saw where the copper piping had been cut from six floors.
An employee of the National Science Center reported Monday that someone removed $800 in copper downspouts from the National Science Center Foundation building at 159 Craig Sims Parkway, police said. A 16-foot ladder was also missing.
The employee told officers the theft occurred sometime since Thursday.
