A man was charged with exploitation of the elderly and two counts of theft by deception after being accused of duping three Augusta women into paying him for cleaning their gutters, which he never did, according to Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. Paul Evans.
The women told police that William Lee Witt III, 43, knocked on their doors and convinced them that they had arranged for him to clean their gutters on that day.
The women, who range from age 60 to 92, said they were intimidated into paying Witt $400 to $500 for his services.
Evans said the work was never done.
