Authorities have arrested a man who was sought in the shooting of three people, killing one, on the Fourth of July.
Richland County Sheriff's Office deputies apprehended Jerome Jerrod Sturgis, also known as "Dirt," at a Columbia apartment without incident, Richmond County sheriff's Investigator James Kelly said in a news release.
Sturgis is charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Investigators believe he fatally shot Darnell Brown, 19, and wounded two bystanders, Darren Howard, 19, and a 12-year-old boy, in the 1900 block of Second Avenue on July 4.
The victims were gathered at a cookout.
Sturgis will remain at the Richland County Jail pending extradition.
