One sought after chase in Columbia County

Deputies arrest two men in suspected burglary attempts

One of two burglary suspects that Columbia County lawmen had spent much of Thursday searching for around Hardy McManus Road was found hiding under a house around 9 p.m., Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.

Timothy Ware, 25, of Evans, was found in the Rivershyre Subdivision following a tip, Morris said. A third suspect, known only as "Bear," remains at large.

Earlier in the day, deputies said they arrested Maurice Crawford, 30, of Evans, after a brief vehicle chase in which the other two suspects fled on foot.

Deputies were called just after 11 a.m. by a resident who reported a suspicious vehicle, a green Ford Expedition, slowly driving through residential neighborhoods off Mullikin Road.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, which led them on a brief pursuit before the driver abandoned the SUV on Woodruff Court and the occupants fled on foot.

Crawford was immediately taken into custody, and police soon set up around the area that includes Woodruff Landing, Rivershyre and Maple Ridge subdivisions.

Police are investigating whether items including a flat-screen television found inside the SUV are stolen, Morris said.
