Sexual assault suspect surrenders in Aiken

A Trenton, S.C., man wanted in a sexual assault case turned himself in to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office on Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff's office had obtained 12 arrest warrants charging Harold Bennon Cartwright III with first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor younger than 16 and eight counts of committing or attempting a lewd act on a child younger than 16.

The charges stem from allegations that Cartwright inappropriately touched, performed sexual acts on and had intercourse with two girls younger than 16 between Oct. 17, 2003, and Feb. 7, 2011, in North Augusta, Clearwater and Trenton, according to the warrants.
