International Paper gives $6,000 to literacy foundation

The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy received a $6,000 grant from International Paper to help provide books for local communities to prepare all Georgia preschool children for reading and learning success, the foundation recently announced.

The funds will provide a free book per month for a year to 167 children in Richmond and Columbia counties. The Greater Augusta Partnership for Literacy, which is part of Ferst, has mailed more than 3,500 books to more than 285 children in the two counties since January 2010.
