Website delivers Masters

Web posted Sunday, April 6, 2003
From Staff Reports

For golf fans who can't make it inside the Augusta National for the 2003 Masters Tournament, logging on to The Augusta Chronicle's online coverage may be the next best thing.
The Augusta Chronicle has paried with Sports Illustrated to provide up-to-the-minute coverage of this year's Masters Tournament. SPECIAL

The Web site, AugustaGolf.com, is the home The Augusta Chronicle and Sports Illustrated's coverage of the tournament. In-depth scores and news updated from the course, combined with an extensive package of multimedia and historical information, make the site a virtual trip to Augusta.

The site has a continuously updated leaderboard, complete with hole-by-hole scores, complemented by news and photos as events happen on the course.

"Our award-winning Web site has everything you would want to know about the tournament," said Conan Gallaty, new media director for The Chronicle.

"Nobody covers this event like The Augusta Chronicle, and by continuing to partner with Sports Illustrated, we have a site that is above all others."

The online coverage consists of hundreds of stories, graphics, photos and multimedia. This marks the seventh year thetwo publications have covered the tournament together online. During Masters Week, April 7-13, the site will offer updated scores and highlights of the tournament, including stories, photographs, audio and video reports from The Chronicle and Sports Illustrated.

The Web site's history section provides visitors with Masters Tournament traditions. Features include stories dating back to the first tournament in 1934, every hole score since 1946, and video clips from the life of course designer Bobby Jones.

Visitors also can view the Augusta National Golf Club through the course tour section. An aerial flyover of the course, detailed hole illustrations, 360-degree photography and an interactive guide are available. Even pin placements are updated daily.
