Tonight’s Par-Tee on the Green has been moved to a different location due to inclement weather.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the celebration will take place at the Richmond County Board of Education parking deck at James Brown Boulevard and Ellis Street.

Event organizer Karen Gordon said they have secured several generators for vendors and will be bringing in extra lighting and ramped up security. If the weather does clear, the celebration will move to the upper level of the parking deck.

The event is scheduled for 5-8 p.m.

A ParTEE in the Board of Education Parking Deck. I wonder why the Reynolds Street parking deck was not available? It's owned by the city and sits empty most of the time.

Props to Karen for forging on with this event. It may just surprise all the naysayers. The other concert was moved indoors, off the river, yet no slams for that.

TEE Center

I am glad Ms Gordon started this event too but am dismayed it is being held in a parking deck. Considering what taxpayers spent on the TEE Center, how come it can't be held there? Plenty of space and rarely is anything going on there

Old Timers

For you old timers, that's the corner of 9th and Ellis. I can't think of a better location to party down for Masters. Sound should be great, not to mention fresh air and rest room facilities.

You can't put vending

You can't put vending trucks/carts in the Tee Center. Good move Karen.

also can't put vending trucks in an enclosed parking deck due to ventilation issues. Maybe would have been better to postpone the event one day? It's not like much of anything else going on downtown for the Masters anyway. This was pretty much it. Weather is supposed to be nice rest of the week.

Also, why does every event downtown have to have a tacky carnival atmosphere with vending trucks selling funnel cakes and nachos? "hey Hon. let's head down to downtown later and have some meat on a stick in a parking deck and listen to smooth jazz." Would have been better just to postpone this later in the week. Stuff happens, but holding this in a parking deck is just setting it up for failure and ensures this is the first and last time this event is held

Also, why does every event downtown have to have a tacky carnival atmosphere with vending trucks selling funnel cakes and nachos? I was under the impression the purpose of these kinds of events were to get ppl downtown so they could spend money in the local restaurants and retail stores. I don't understand the reason to set up a mall food court in a parking deck when there are so many great places to eat downtown. I think a lot of the food

I think a lot of the food trucks ARE from some restaurants, and even if not, most true Food Trucks ARE small Augusta businesses. Not all food from Food Trucks is funnel cakes for crissakes! Food Truck Vending is super HOT in Atlanta and all big cities. Maybe it COULD NOT be postponed because the music people may not be free other evenings. Again, props to Karen for making it happen. Negative attitudes, stay home.

So if it is being moved into a parking deck because of rain
Unpublished

you are saying the food trucks will be in the open air top of the deck? So what's the point of moving it from the open air Green? And we all know how great the acoustics are in a parking deck. Really tho, what reason would ppl have to travel from washington rd to downtown to eat from a food truck in a parking deck and listen to bands in the echo chamber of a parking deck? Plus how does this do anything to promote downtown if everyone is huddled in a parking deck? Maybe it would have been better to just have a pub crawl.

to eat at restaurants and support actual businesses, not a carny atmosphere like in the parking lot of some strip mall. Excuse me if I am not the type who likes paying $10 for a meal out of a truck that I have to eat sitting on a curb when I can have a sit down meal in a downtown restaurant with actual chairs and service and ambience for around the same price. Will the fire twirlers and belly dancers be there too?

Naysayers

I have no idea what is the best place to hold it. That is why we hire people who have actual knowledge of putting on these types of events to make these decisions. Sheesh. Don't we other things to complain about?

Postpone
Unpublished

The Augusta National postpones play during inclement weather and that is a major undertaking to empty the course and reschedule play. If this was supposed to be about promoting downtown to Masters visitors, you would think there would have been some flexibility in the planning to postpone this a day or two so that it is actually a ParTEE on the Green as the name suggests and not a Diddle in The Deck, as this is turning out. I thought this was all about the visitors and locals rather than the food truck vendors and bands you can see every First Friday. I guess not. Plus this isn't even the day of the Par 3 tournament.

I have concluded that there

I have concluded that there is NO event in ANY venue in this town put on by ANY group that would be up to Butterman's standards. BTW...the other concert from the amphitheater was moved to TEE center, so that was not an option for Par-Tee. Hey, at least the TEE center's being used, right Butterman?

Severe Weather
Unpublished

We are expecting severe weather later today. It is not safe to hold an outdoor event or one in a partially open parking deck. There is an entire week left before Masters is over, certainly this event could have been postponed a day or two. Considering the awful weather we have been having, if you cannot be flexible to postpone an outdoor event like this a day or two then perhaps it's better to just not do it. And no, maybe my standars are a tad high. I don't consider it enjoyable to huddle in parking deck with exhaust fumes from food trucks and the echo chamber from bands blaring all while we are under a tornado watch and torrential downpours. I dont think I am alone in that either. Even the Masters is pretty much shutting down for the rest of teh day for the safety of the golfers and patrons. Now I am wondering if this event was more about the egos of its organizers than actually having a nice festival that locals and visitors could enjoy downtown.

If they rescheduled for later in the week and had it on the Commons, I would definitely be there. No, I have no interest in getting soaked walking from my car and then standing around in a parking deck to listen to a DJ and get a snow cone or a cookie.

Rent

triscuit posted:

. . . the other concert from the amphitheater was moved to TEE Center. . . .

I wonder if organizers of this "other" concert are going to pay the TEE Center's published rate, or whether there is some favoritism going on, with the city waiving the rent (but taxpayers still paying Riverfront, LLC’s management fee)?

Just took a look at the event lineup. No bands. Just a DJ, just a dozen or so vendors. Still not sure why this could not have been put off till later in the week. Seems like they put more effort into designing their posters than in planning the event.
