In his third season on the PGA Tour, Thompson is making his second appearance in the Masters Tournament. The 2007 U.S. Amateur runner-up, Thompson missed the cut in his first Masters appearance a year later.

The 27-year-old Thompson played his first two seasons of college golf at Tulane, but he transferred to Alabama after the golf team was disbanded following Hurricane Katrina. In 2008, he earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Year honors.

Thompson led the 2012 U.S. Open after opening with 66. He finished tied for second with Graeme McDowell, one shot behind champion Webb Simpson. Thompson finished the year with more than $1.4 million in earnings.

“We rely heavily on FCA Golf’s Jim Esary to help us locate our speakers for the Augusta Golf Breakfast, and Jim has assured me that Michael Thompson will be special,” Greater Augusta FCA Director Greg Wilson said. “Not being totally familiar with Thompson’s game, this reminds me of 2006 when Esary promised us that a little-known PGA Tour player named Zach Johnson would be a terrific speaker for us, and we all know how that worked out as he won the Masters the following year, so we are excited about having Thompson pay us a visit this year. I understand he has a phenomenal personal testimony and does a superb job of communicating it in a setting like the Augusta Golf Breakfast offers.”
