Run for Shelter

The second annual Augusta Rescue Mission Run for Shelter begins at 8 a.m. May 11.

Last year, more than 200 runners helped raise $20,000 for the mission and Augusta Bridge Ministry, serving downtown’s homeless and those in need.

The race begins at 8 a.m. at Augusta Common and runs by the Augusta Rescue Mission on Walker Street.

Open house

Immaculate Conception Catholic School will introduce a new principal at an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9.

Visitors will tour the school and meet teachers for the 101st school year, along with new Principal Allison Palfy, currently assistant principal at Cedar Ridge Elementary in Grovetown. She starts at Immaculate Conception on July 1.

The school, at 811 Telfair St., offers pre-K3, pre-K4 and kindergarten through eighth grade. Learn more at icaugusta.org.

Spirit Bells

The Concert Handbells and Spirit Bells of Con­cor­dia University Irvine, Calif., under the direction of Herbert Geisler and Nancy Jessup, will perform at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 402 Aumond Road, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The 27 ringers are selected from Concordia’s four handbell ensembles.

Their repertoire includes a variety of styles, with both sacred and secular arrangements, handbell solos, quartets and change ringing, and concludes with a hands-on audience-participation demonstration and sing-along. Learn more at cui.edu/handbells.
