Drive-Thru Difference brings holiday cheer

Kindness is contagious.

That premise inspires FM radio station WAFJ (88.3)’s Drive-Thru Difference. A few times a year, the local, listener-supported Christian station invites residents to make someone’s day by purchasing the order of the person behind them in the drive-through lane.

This Friday’s Drive-Thru Difference couldn’t have come at a better time, said Steve Swanson, the station manager.

“We’ve been doing this for several years now, and actually had this Friday on the calendar for a while,” he said.

With bad news filling airwaves and the unthinkable tragedy in Newtown, Conn., this holiday season, “It just comes at an especially good time.”

To participate, go to wafj.com, then download and print a note explaining the promotion.

Pay for the meal of the car behind you and hand the note to the cashier to give to the other car’s driver.

On Friday, listeners call in to the station to share stories about the simple acts of kindness. Others will post to the station’s Facebook page.

“Our listeners have really embraced the opportunity to bless the community through this simple act of generosity,” Swanson said.

Even better, he added, “We’ve seen it multiply as people ‘get it’ and pass it on.”
