The Rev. Paul Maier, an author, teacher and expert on Biblical archaeology, speaks during the 75th anniversary celebration of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

He will hold a workshop at the church, at 402 Aumond Road, from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. today on St. Paul and the spread of Christianity. The cost is $15 per person and $25 per family.

On Sunday, he will preach at 8:15 and 11 a.m., with question and answer sessions held at 9:40 a.m. An anniversary banquet begins at 12:30 p.m.

Local radio personalities and volunteers will be at Chick-fil-A restaurants in Evans, North Augusta and Aiken today for the WAFJ-FM (88.3) Operation Christmas Child Campaign Kickoff.

Volunteers will hand out empty shoeboxes and information on the campaign, an effort to deliver shoeboxes of Christmas gifts to millions of children worldwide.

Last year, an estimated 8.5 million boxes were shipped to children through Samaritan’s Purse, the international Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham.

“Our goal this year is to collect 11,000 in our region,” Lance Danko, media relations coordinator for the Aiken Area Operation Christmas Child Team, said in a release.

• Basic Computer Academy, an 8-10 week course that focuses on Microsoft applications. Classes are scheduled every 10 weeks throughout the year for two hours per week. Classes are available in the morning, afternoon and evening.
