Prayers to be offered Wednesday at school flagpoles

Students at schools across the country will gather around flagpoles early Wednesday morning for prayer at the 22nd annual See You At The Pole.

The informal, student-initiated gatherings begin at 7 a.m. at many area high schools and some elementary and middle schools. Start times, however, may vary from school to school.

Youths from several area schools will lead prayer at a rally at Warren Baptist Church. The Brett Younker Band from Atlanta’s Passion City Church will lead worship. The rally begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road.

The 2012 theme is “Awaken,” and features verses from Ephesians 3:14–21.

The day of prayer began with 10 students who gathered outside a Texas school in 1990. This year, more than 3 million students in 20 countries are expected to take part.
