Sikh interfaith prayer vigil Friday to recognize Wisconsin shooting victims

  • Follow Your Faith

Members of the local Sikh community are holding a night of interfaith prayer and a candlelight vigil for victims of religious hate crime Friday night at Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha on Evans to Locks Road.

The event, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is in memory of the six Sikhs killed in Sunday’s shooting in Oak Creek, Wis., and in response to the alleged arson of an Islamic mosque in Joplin, Mo., on Monday.

Speakers will condemn hate crimes and support understanding and cooperation among members of different faiths. Hossam Fadel of the Islamic Society of Augusta and Andy Reese of the Interfaith Fellowship of Augusta are scheduled to speak.

Refreshments will be served at the end of the evening, and the candlelight vigil is scheduled to begin at 8:45.
